Relations between President Biden and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel appear to have sunk to a new low, with both men pressed hard by domestic politics and looming elections. Mr. Netanyahu, however, allowed his defense minister, Yoav Gallant, to remain in Washington for talks. In a recent interview, Mr. Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, accused Mr. Biden of tacitly supporting Israel’s enemies. Mr. Biden called it “a good speech” without endorsing the call for new elections. But Mr. Biden is far more popular in Israel than Mr. Obama was and a serious break with Washington would deeply undermine Israel’s security and its future.

WASHINGTON — The Biden campaign has zeroed in on a likely date and location for a fundraiser with three Democratic presidents — Joe Biden, Barack Obama and Bill Clinton — according to three people familiar with the planning. The fundraiser is expected to take place on March 28 in New York City, possibly at Radio City Music Hall, these people said. A spokesperson for the Biden campaign said no details have been finalized, including venue or location. NBC News first reported last month that the Biden campaign was trying to organize a fundraiser with the current president and his two most recent Democratic predecessors. Obama and Clinton also remain popular leaders in the Democratic Party.

“The Biden administration’s asylum ban is illegal and dangerous,” said Anne Peterson, a senior staff attorney at the Center for Gender and Refugee Studies. “The courts have repeatedly struck down these policies as unlawful. “The rule has significantly reduced irregular migration, and since its implementation on May 12 we have removed more than 85,000 individuals. Judge Lawrence J.C. VanDyke wrote that he agreed with their decision but objected because his two colleagues had been harsher when dealing with cases involving former President Donald J. Trump. In a five-page dissent, Judge VanDyke, a Trump appointee, wrote that the other judges did not give the former president’s administration the same deference when they were considering several challenges to his immigration policies.

Donald Trump is reportedly the only living US president whose ancestors did not own slaves. That's because Trump's ancestors came to America after slavery had already been abolished. Even Barack Obama — the country's first Black president — is the descendant of a slaveowner on his white mother's side of the family. According to Reuters, the slaveholding ancestors of living US presidents include:Joe Biden — One direct ancestor, five generations removed, owned one slaveBarack Obama — One director ancestor, six generations removed, owned two slavesGeorge Bush — One director ancestor, six generations removed, owned 25 slavesBill Clinton — One director ancestor, five generations removed, owned one slavesJimmy Carter — One director ancestor, four generations removed, owned 54 slavesBut Trump stands out among the bunch. While other presidents have deep ancestral roots in America, Trump's ancestors did not immigrate to the United States until after slavery was abolished in 1865.

He was promised loan forgiveness after 25 years, but he's still repaying the debt with nearly a decade to go. "We are literally crushed by this debt," Harmon, 53, told Insider. NPR obtained internal documents indicating that three student-loan companies — PHEAA, CornerStone, and MOHELA — weren't tracking payments borrowers made over the past two decades for their income-driven repayment plans. 'The government is not fulfilling its obligation'US lawmakers are aware of failures with income-driven repayment plans. It found that the department had approved just 157 loans for full forgiveness under income-driven repayment plans, with 7,700 more loans "potentially eligible" for forgiveness.
When I first started investigating China’s top spy agency in 2020 for my book, “Spies and Lies: How China’s Greatest Covert Operations Fooled the World,” I thought espionage was its main game. In October, the Justice Department charged 13 people with plotting to covertly advance China’s interests in the United States. Several of those charged are allegedly officers of China’s Ministry of State Security. I soon realized that the Ministry of State Security’s covert influence operations have been at the forefront of its work to shape the world. Many countries, including the United States, are working to combat espionage but lack laws suited to tackling covert influence operations.

Mamadi Doumbouya for The New York Times Talk Bono Is Still Trying to Figure Out U2 and HimselfThere are different Bonos to different people, including the man himself. You say, “But you’re U2 — you don’t need that.” What’s interesting is that we want that. But I also wrote the book to try to figure out what was going on with U2. They sound like U2 songs. Do they sound like U2 songs?
